Today, there are three CFYK's, all in in Yellowknife, NWT, Canada. The original CFYK-AM is still on 1340 KHz, and is owned and operated by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). It carries CBC One network programming, as well as local programming. CFYK-FM is on 95.3 MHz and runs CBC Two. CFYK-TV is on Channel 8.

This site looks at CFYK and Yellowknife as they were in 1974, when I worked there. At the time, CFYK was one of three manned CBC radio stations in Canada's Northwest Territories (NWT). The other two were in Inuvik and Frobisher Bay. Since then, Frobisher Bay has been renamed and is no longer part of the NWT.
There were also a series of 40 watt AM repeater stations in smaller communities throughout the NWT. CFYK fed 12 of them, including one each in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Together, the 13 stations were known as The Mackenzie Network.
